There has already been much speculation about whether or not Prince William and Kate Middleton will make a success of their marriage, bearing in mind she is a “commoner” and he a future king. The recent marital staying-power of William’s parents, uncle Andrew, Aunt Anne and Great Aunt Margaret don’t set much of a precedent.
So what do the stars say? William is a Gemini, Kate a Capricorn. This is not, according to most assessments, an ideal combination.
Prince William – Gemini Man
A typical Gemini man is impulsive, fun-loving, witty and flirtatious. He loves to talk, is often the life and soul of the party but can be easily bored and unreliable. He is great with children, being a bit of a big kid himself.
This description reminds me of another fun-loving prince dating back to the 15th century and immortalised by Shakespeare. Prince Hal of Henry V spends most of his time drinking in the taverns with his lecherous good-for-nothing servant, Falstaff. (I don’t mean to imply that this is how William behaves, but does rather enjoy frequenting Annabel’s nightclub, which could be said to be a modern-day equivalent). As soon as Hal’s father dies and he is crowned King Henry V, however, Hal completely abandons his laddish ways and becomes a brave and heroic king, inspiring his soldiers to battle at Agincourt with his “Once more unto the breach” speech.
I've no idea whether Prince William is a typical Gemini (he is, in fact, on the cusp with sensitive Cancer), but if he is then it may be that marriage to a woman of Kate's nature is just what he needs to turn his attention to the duties and responsibilities of a future king.
Kate Middleton – Capricorn Woman
A Capricorn woman is methodical in her work, calm, modest and reserved by nature. She is ambitious and hard-working, and will have a few close friends rather than a very wide circle. She is caring and loving in a relationship, both to her partner and her children. She has a very different nature, therefore, from her Gemini man.
A love match between these two signs is not considered favorable. While Capricorns value loyalty and trust, Geminis prefer freedom and liberality. The impulsive nature of the Gemini may get frustrated with his Capricorn partner’s determination to see a project through, following every step methodically.
With regard to William and Kate, however, this could prove a good combination. A future king needs to take his duties seriously and see things through (it wouldn’t be very good if, half way through a royal walkabout, he suddenly decides he wants to go and play golf instead). This is just the kind of aspect that would benefit from Kate’s steady, calming influence. Kate, however, can reap the benefit of William’s fun-loving and flexible nature; life as the future queen could prove very burdensome if it’s taken too seriously. There is a good chance, therefore, that their natures will be complementary rather than confrontational.
The other big point in their favor is that they've been together for 10 years already, so hopefully any irksome aspects of each other's nature have already been ironed out. Good luck, Wills and Kate.
